Tablets in government

How one particular state government agency has embraced tablets

Oh no......choices I don't want

We standardized on the Motion computing 1400 and 1600, they are great machines.  Now the new Thinkpad pen tablet has been introduced, it is the Nirvana of pen computing.  I am reviewing requests for laptops so, I am in the process of evaluating the new Dell X-1, a fine ultra-light laptop.  So I am thinking, the new Thinkpad is as light as the X-1, has a pen operating system, a fantastic Thinkpad keyboard that is attached, does it get any better.  Now I am in a quandry, what should I do, change the standard, help me, give me input, after all I am but a government drone, doing the job, trying to save taxpayer dollars and give the users quality tools.

While my bias may be obvious, the answer is rather simple because the ThinkPad X41 is the clear winner in your quandry. (1) Added features of inking, (2) The X-1 from Dell is a 1.1 GHz whereas the Lenovo is 1.5GHz. (3) The Lenovo has 10 more GB of hard drive storage space. (4) Lenovo has the fingerprint recognition security. The only feature missing is the optical drive ... BUT because you are a government organization there is ONE feature the Lenovo has that blows away the competition...

"The new Computrace Complete (by Absolute Software Inc) BIOS-based agent on X41 Tablet models is a PC tracking and loss control solution to help monitor asset locations, protect valuable corporate data and attempt to recover PCs if they are stolen. A valid subscription with Absolute Software, Inc. is required. Absolute Software is solely responsible for this service."

IMHO, this feature is vital to governments.
