Microsoft points = Micropayments

One of the better ideas I've seen come out of Microsoft since OneNote comes Microsoft Points for the Xbox Marketplace. With this they could branch into all sorts of content possibilities being done through the Xbox marketplace and perhaps someday beyond.

Oh, and yes, I've been away for awhile from this blog checking out and getting familiar with LSL (Linden Scripting Language) in Second Life. Had to put aside my time laid out for Crink to go to this endeavor. Also, I've had some tablet hardware problems (still having a few) which have kind of dampened my excitement level for the Tablet PC. I am looking very forward to buying one of the new UMPCs. I might even do that before Vista comes out, if I can get my hands on one.

Took nearly five months to finally see an Xbox 360 on store shelves for the first time.

Currently hooked on this video Pinball Hall of Fame The Gottlieb Collection game for the PSP. Most pinball titles I've played on the computer, gaming consoles or portables have been lacking but this one stands above the rest as one of the better ones.

Been trying to write up this review and keep taking time to play it. Any other tableteers have / play the PSP? If you do and you like pinball, this is one worth at least giving a serious look.

Getting a (second) life

Ok, in preparation for a detailed review, Second Life has been sucking away my time. If you want to mention my name in the referred by field "TD Goodliffe", I'll get a few Linden $$ as a referral bonus.

Sucking time in a good way, incidentally, I'm pretty impressed with this world. This 3D virtual world looks pretty good on the tablet, incidentally. Any other tableteer Second Lifers?

Hmm, seems like I'm having trouble inking in anything other than black. If I change the ink color then it freezes and I can no longer alter the drawing. Anybody else have this problem?

Can comment URL redirects be turned off, please?

Is there a setting in Community Server to turn off comment redirection and simply use the URL that people put in their comments without the url encoded redirection code? Javascript can be used to count clicks or track without having to mask the URL.

For example, the way it is now:
http://www.tabletpcblogs.com/utility/Redirect.aspx?U=http%3a%2f%2fwww.whatisnew.com%2fblogs%2fdailynews%2farchive%2f2005%2f12%2f31%2f6063.aspx

VS.
http://www.whatisnew.com/blogs/dailynews/archive/2005/12/31/6063.aspx

#2 sure is better because:
- search engine love for those who leave comments (assuming rel='nofollow' isn't appended to the HREF). Since each blogger can moderate the comments, spam could be removed if present. I don't speak for every blogger of course, but I'd like to see people who comment on my blogs with good comments get some sort of search engine love. With the current system they can't unless I grab their comment and make a new post out of it. This means if the user leaves a comment and puts their own tablet pc blog in the URL space they can get
- easier to determine if the comment is spam by hovering over it without having to try and parse a URL encoded redirect or clicking through
- less page code :)

I could go on, but let's just put it bluntly: URL redirects in the comment area suck from both sides: blogger and commenter.

If there is a way to turn it off in this program, I'm putting my vote in to please turn it off. If we are stuck with it, then perhaps somebody could ask Telligent to make this an option in the next version of their software?

I'm sure someone will call this a spam prevention tool and that's all well and good for those who want to use that on their blogs, but it should be an individual blog author decision or webmaster decision, not the decision of the software company.

Looks like more changes abound and the ink is gone (at least for me, and didn't see a settings option). I checked the forums and other blog posts and didn't see any news or explanation. Maybe it's time to setup an internal mailing list and share with some of us what's going on with the server?

It's nice to be able to finally identify who is leaving comments again and I like the new template over the old, but where's the ink? I'm getting the daily crink shakes! It's become a terrible addiction, yanno?!

I realize this is free space and there is definitely no obligation to do anything for those of us contributing content here up to and including the blog space to begin with, but ... well, it might be nice to be in the loop ... at least for some of us that might be considered regular contributers.

I'll shut up now.
